Supplementation – Something added to supply a deficiency

Trends of the Decades

The wellness industry has been an influx of new supplementation forms according to Vemma’s™ CEO, BK Boreyko.

In the 1980s…Tablets were the predominant form. By definition, tablets are a mixture of active substances, usually in powder form, pressed into a solid by adding binders and flow agents.

In the 1990s…Capsules began replacing tablets on the health-supplement aisles. These gel capsules were more expensive than tablets, but offered a more effective delivery system.

In the 2000s…Liquid vitamins, functional beverages (such as energy drinks), or nutritional supplement drinks are the leading products in the burgeoning wellness industry. “In the new millennium, I believe liquids are the best delivery system for the nutrients you want in your body,” BK says. “When considering supplementation, don’t look at the label and think that’s what your body is getting. It’s what your body absorbs that’s most important."
